San Diego police have arrested a man suspected of fatally shooting his 17-year-old pregnant girlfriend in the head early Saturday in Bay Park, officials said.<\/p>\n

Officers responded to reports of a shooting near Gardena Avenue and Knoxville Street around 1:10 a.m. and found the teen unresponsive with a gunshot wound, according to the San Diego Police Department. The victimwho police said was approximately 32 weeks pregnant was taken to a nearby hospital where an emergency cesarean section was performed.<\/p>\n

The newborn was in critical condition Saturday, SDPD said. The teen died at the hospital.<\/p>\n

Investigators said the victim and her family were visiting San Diego from Arizona and were staying in the short-term vacation rental. The suspect was identified\u00a0by police as 19-year-old Trevon Williams, also an Arizona resident, who investigators said met the victim outside the rental.<\/p>\n

He allegedly fled after the shooting to a nearby canyon but was found and arrested several hours later near September Street. Police said officers recovered a semi-automatic handgun and booked Williams at San Diego County Jail on suspicion of murder.<\/p>\n

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the shooting to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.<\/p>\n
