North County voters overwhelmingly favor Measure H<\/h4>\n

Measure H, the referendum that asks voters in Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista to approve leasing Tri-City Medical Center to Sharp HealthCare for 30 years, appeared to be headed for an easy victory Tuesday with early returns showing support that far exceeds the simple majority threshold necessary for passage.<\/p>\n

Desmond and von Wilpert leading in 48th Congressional District<\/h4>\n

Just after the polls closed on election night, Republican Jim Desmond and Democrat Marni von Wilpert were leading a crowded field in a hotly contested North County congressional race that could be pivotal to deciding control of Congress this fall. Three-time congressional candidate Ammar Campa-Najjar was running in a distant third behind von Wilpert, according to early returns.<\/p>\n

San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones leading county supervisor race<\/h4>\n

San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones, a Republican, held a solid lead for the District 5 seat on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, according to early primary results released Tuesday. Kyle Krahel, a Democrat, held a slight edge over Republican John Franklin for the second spot, meaning ballots yet to be counted may determine whether Krahel or Franklin goes on to the general election in November.<\/p>\n

California\u2019s dramatic race for governor drags on<\/h4>\n

In the race for California governor, partial results, released by the California secretary of state\u2019s office shortly before midnight, showed Republican\u00a0Steve Hilton\u00a0narrowly edging out Democrat\u00a0Xavier Becerra\u00a0for first place, with Democrat\u00a0Tom Steyer\u00a0rounding out the top three.<\/p>\n
