The San Diego Community College District said Tuesday it is continuing to battle a major cyberattack that began on Saturday and led the system to take some internet, email, websites and registration platforms offline while it is in the midst of enrolling students for summer classes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe still have several systems offline as a precaution, but campuses remain open and nearly all classes are continuing as scheduled,\u201d said Jack Beresford, a district spokesperson. \u201cThere was no ransom demand, as there hasn\u2019t been a breach that we\u2019ve detected. Their methods do suggest a sophisticated and well-funded operation, likely originating overseas.\u201d<\/p>\n

About 60,000 students will take classes during summer sessions at San Diego City, Mesa, Miramar and Continuing Education colleges. Later this month, the district will award its first bachelor\u2019s degree-level diplomas to students studying cybersecurity.<\/p>\n
