A 21-year-old man who was fatally struck by a San Diego police vehicle in Linda Vista on Wednesday is believed to have purposefully stepped into the vehicle\u2019s path, San Diego police said.<\/p>\n

The crash was reported after the officer driving west on Linda Vista Road near Goshen Street felt an impact to his vehicle around 1:30 a.m., said Lt. Cesar Jimenez in a news release. The officer then turned the vehicle around and saw a pedestrian lying in the roadway.<\/p>\n

Firefighters were called and took the man to a hospital, where he died. He was a student at the nearby University of San Diego, school officials said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBased on the evidence collected and witness statements obtained during the investigation, the death is believed to be a suicide,\u201d Jimenez said.<\/p>\n
