The crash was reported after the officer driving west on Linda Vista Road near Goshen Street felt an impact to his vehicle around 1:30 a.m., said Lt. Cesar Jimenez in a news release. The officer then turned the vehicle around and saw a pedestrian lying in the roadway.
Firefighters were called and took the man to a hospital, where he died. He was a student at the nearby University of San Diego, school officials said.
