Navy may relocate carrier USS Abraham Lincoln from San Diego to Bremerton

The Navy is considering changing the homeport of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln from San Diego to Bremerton, Wash., which would leave only two flattops based in Southern California.

The carrier “(Ronald) Reagan’s going to stay here and I believe the Abraham Lincoln will probably change ports to here as well,” Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Daryl Caudle said on June 3 while visiting the Bremerton area.

Caudle’s remarks came during a recorded video interview with the Kitsap Sun newspaper.

The Lincoln is currently leading a carrier strike group in the Middle East.

The carrier moved from Norfolk, Va., to San Diego Bay in 2020, where it has been a familiar sight at Naval Air Station North Island. The base also is the home to the carriers USS Theodore Roosevelt, which is preparing for deployment, and USS Carl Vinson.
