A 19-year-old man who was fatally shot outside a Grantville apartment complex has been identified as Deandre Towers, a San Diego resident.

San Diego police responded at 10:23 p.m. Friday to reports of a shooting on Alvarado Canyon Road. They found evidence of the shooting outside of the Union Grantville apartment complex near the Grantville Trolley Station, but found no victim, according to the San Diego Police Department.
While officers were at the scene, a separate 911 call reported a single-vehicle crash on nearby Mission Gorge Road.

Responding officers found Towers in the backseat of the crashed vehicle with a gunshot wound. The driver, who was not injured, told police he was trying to transport Towers to a hospital from the apartment complex when the crash occurred, the department stated.
Paramedics took Towers to a trauma center, where he was pronounced dead.
