An 80-year-old woman walking in a driveway of a La Mesa shopping center was struck and killed by a vehicle early Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The crash happened around 12:10 p.m. while the vehicle was pulling out of the driveway onto Fletcher Parkway near Baltimore Drive, police said.
Officers and paramedics arrived and found the unresponsive pedestrian lying in the roadway, investigators said. She was taken to a hospital, where she died. Her name was not released.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and spoke with investigators. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.
