A motorcyclist was killed Saturday when they rear-ended a pickup truck on the Interstate 15 in Escondido.

The crash was reported around 12:38 a.m. Saturday on the southbound Escondido Freeway north of Camino del Norte, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the pickup truck reported that the motorcycle hit him from behind and the rider was on the ground in the fast lane.

It was not clear from the CHP’s online log whether the rider died in a hospital or at the scene.
The roadway was shut down just north of Bernardo Center at about 12:50 a.m. and was reopened at about 2:15 a.m.
