A man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries after he was involved in a confrontation on an Escondido street Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Officers responded to the incident after they received a report of an assault against a man on Buchanan Street near E. Mission Avenue around 2:15 p.m., Escondido police Lt. Robert Craig said.
He was taken to a hospital where he remained as of early Wednesday evening, Craig said. The man’s medical condition was not immediately known.

Craig said a suspect was in custody but declined to give further information about the alleged attacker or about the events leading up to the assault.
“This investigation is still ongoing,” Craig said.
