San Diego police have arrested a man suspected of fatally shooting his 17-year-old pregnant girlfriend in the head early Saturday in Bay Park, officials said.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting near Gardena Avenue and Knoxville Street around 1:10 a.m. and found the teen unresponsive with a gunshot wound, according to the San Diego Police Department. The victimwho police said was approximately 32 weeks pregnant was taken to a nearby hospital where an emergency cesarean section was performed.
The newborn was in critical condition Saturday, SDPD said. The teen died at the hospital.
Investigators said the victim and her family were visiting San Diego from Arizona and were staying in the short-term vacation rental. The suspect was identified by police as 19-year-old Trevon Williams, also an Arizona resident, who investigators said met the victim outside the rental.

He allegedly fled after the shooting to a nearby canyon but was found and arrested several hours later near September Street. Police said officers recovered a semi-automatic handgun and booked Williams at San Diego County Jail on suspicion of murder.
