The U.S. Central Command on Monday said that an F/A Super Hornet from the San Diego-based aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln used a precision munition to stop an oil tanker that was attempting to enter an Iranian port.

The jet “disabled Palau-flagged M/T Marivex as it transited international waters in the Gulf of Oman toward Iran,” Central Command said in a statement.
The munition hit the tanker’s engineering and steering spaces, preventing the vessel from traveling further.

The Abraham Lincoln arrived in the Middle East in late January and played a lead role when U.S. forces attacked Iran in late February. A ceasefire has since gone into effect.
