The report of possible neglect prompted animal control officers to visit the property on El Camino Real, a few blocks north of Via de la Valle, county officials said in a news release.

The officers obtained a warrant and stayed late at the site to gather and take the animals Wednesday.

“Several animals showed signs of medical issues, including being underweight and having skin and dental conditions,” the county said.

A dog was found dead inside the home, they said.

The animals seized included two horses, four miniature horses, a pony, two goat and four geese. They also took a cat and 24 dogs.

The county said the animals are getting veterinary care at the county’s shelters in Carlsbad and Bonita, the latter hosting the larger animals. The Bonita site is also caring for several horses seized last month from a Julian animal sanctuary.
