Smoke advisory issued for brush fire in Camp Pendleton training area

A brush fire erupted in a Camp Pendleton training area Tuesday afternoon, prompting the base to issue a smoke advisory.

The fire is “well within” the Zulu Training Area, military base officials said on Facebook. The posting noted that while smoke may be visible, there was no current threat to people or infrastructure, and no evacuations have been ordered.

Base officials said the Camp Pendleton Fire Department is responding to the fire, which appears to be in the northeastern portion of the sprawling base.

Cal Fire officials said the fire started just before 3:30 p.m. and quickly reached about 100 acres.
