San Diego police are investigating after a man was found gravely injured along a Point Loma thoroughfare early Thursday. He later died.

Police received a call around 1:50 a.m. that reported seeing the man, down along Nimitz Boulevard, north of Famosa Boulevard.
Officers found him unresponsive. San Diego Fire-Rescue medics performed life-saving measures on the man, who appeared to be in his 50s or 60s, police said. He was transported to a hospital, where he died.

Police said hospital staff found traumatic injuries on his upper body, which prompted a homicide investigation.
