Just before 8:45 p.m., someone reported an assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm at a home on 11th Street, a couple of blocks north of H Street, sheriff’s Lt. Aloha Peters said in a news release.
Peters said deputies arrived and found a man at the steps of the residence. They detained the man, identified as Ryan Wesley Proffitt.
Inside the home, deputies found a woman and a man, and each was suffering from what Peters said were “significant traumatic injuries.” Medics quickly arrived, but both victims died at the scene. Their names were withheld so their families could be notified of their deaths.

Peters did not provide further detail about the incident. “The circumstances and motive surrounding the incident remain under investigation,” she said.
Proffitt, 33, remained jailed without bail Tuesday on two counts of murder. Online jail records indicate he is slated to be arraigned Thursday in El Cajon Superior Court.
