A woman died after she was struck by a vehicle whose driver didn’t stop in Oceanside on Sunday night, authorities said.

Someone called police just before 9:45 p.m. to report seeing a body in the middle of state Route 76 just east of Guajome Lake Road, near Guajome Regional Park, said Oceanside police Lt. Bill Weese.
A police spokesperson said investigators believe the woman was in the middle of the roadway when she was struck. The driver fled the scene and has not been identified.

Police shut down a stretch of eastbound SR-76 overnight between Guajome Lake Road and Melrose Drive as they conducted an investigation. The roadway reopened by 6 a.m., the department said on X.
Police did not release a description of the suspect vehicle. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of her relatives.
