Several portable toilets caught fire in downtown San Diego on Thursday, resulting in a visible plume of smoke and a quick response from firefighters.

Firefighters received a report around 4:05 p.m. of 12 portable potties being on fire in one of the Petco Park parking lots at K and 14th streets, said Candace Hadley, a spokesperson for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
The fire was knocked down within minutes, but hazmat and Metro Arson Strike Team members were called to the scene to investigate, Hadley said.

Crews left the scene about 4:45 p.m.
Multiple pictures of the fire were posted to social media, showing black smoke reaching the heights of some downtown skyscrapers before firefighters extinguished the flames.

The cause is undetermined at this time, Hadley said.
