A 61-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a car while pushing a shopping cart in a street in San Diego’s El Cerrito neighborhood Thursday night, police said.

The fatal collision occurred about 8:45 p.m. on El Cajon Boulevard near 60th Street, according to San Diego police.
The pedestrian was walking westbound in the street’s second lane, pushing a shopping cart, when he was struck by a westbound 2018 Honda Civic driven by a 28-year-old man.

The pedestrian died at the scene, police reported. His name has not been released pending family notification.
Investigators determined that driving under the influence was not a factor in the crash, police said.
