San Diego police arrested a man on suspicion of murder in connection with a fatal hatchet attack Monday afternoon in the Bay Ho neighborhood, officials said.

Officers responded to a report of a man being attacked around 4:50 p.m. near Santa Fe Street and Damon Avenue, just east of Interstate 5. They found a man on the street suffering from multiple cuts to his head.
The victim, believed to be around 50 years old, died at the scene.
Officers learned the suspect was likely inside a travel trailer parked nearby, police said. They surrounded the trailer and told people inside to come out.
Police arrested Larry Raymond Rodriguez, 39, on suspicion of murder. He was later booked into county jail, where he is being held without bail.

A 3-year-old girl, believed to be the suspect’s daughter, was found inside the trailer and placed into protective custody.
Police are still trying to identify the victim and determine a motive for the attack. There is “no known connections between the suspect and victim,” said homicide Lt. Lou Maggi. No other details were immediately released.
