A 34-year-old woman was gravely injured Friday when a car struck her as she was trying to cross a Webster-area street.

The pedestrian was running across the roadway in a crosswalk at Euclid Avenue and Federal Boulevard around 5 a.m. when the southbound 2004 Mazda hit her, according to San Diego Police.
Paramedics took her to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, including a skull fracture, brain contusion, torn carotid artery and liver damage, Officer David O’Brien said.

It was not immediately clear who was at fault, though intoxicated driving was not a factor, according to police.
