The on-duty police officer and the driver and passenger in the sedan that hit the officer’s car suffered moderate injuries in the collision, which occurred shortly before 2 a.m. at Olympic Parkway and Santa Venetia Street.

Police said the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when he or she went through the intersection against a red light, striking the police cruiser. The patrol car ended up down an embankment after being struck, said police Lt. Matt Smith.

All three people were transported to a hospital to be treated for injuries not believed to be life-threatening, Smith said.
