36-year-old pedestrian dies after being hit by vehicle in Kearny Mesa

A pedestrian crossing a Kearny Mesa street early Sunday morning suffered fatal injuries when he was hit by a van, San Diego police said.

The 36-year-old man was crossing Clairemont Mesa Boulevard mid-block near Ruffner Street around 1:20 a.m. when he was hit by a 2010 Volkswagen Routan driven by a 42-year-old woman, police said.

The driver stopped after the collision. Alcohol or drug use was not a factor, police said.

The pedestrian died before he could be taken to a hospital.
