The Fourth of July weekend will be mostly clear with temperatures close to seasonal averages across San Diego County. But forecasters say the recent lack of rain will increase the potential for wildfires, a threat that has already led to a ban on campfires and charcoal barbecues in the Cleveland National Forest.

A high-pressure system will start to move into the region on Thursday, causing temperatures to inch up as the week goes along and making the marine layer thinner along the coast.
The National Weather Service projects the following daytime high temperatures for Saturday: San Ysidro, 72; San Diego, 73; Oceanside, 74; Mira Mesa, 76; Palomar Mountain, 79; Julian, 81; Escondido, 83; Ramona, 85; Campo, 87; and Borrego Springs, 107.
Evening temperatures could drop into the upper 60s by the time San Diego’s Big Bay Boom fireworks display begins at 9:15 p.m. The fireworks show at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar will start at 9 p.m. Winds are expected to be light.

The weather service says that sea-surface temperatures along the coast will be in the 66- to 69-degree range in most areas through at least Friday and possibly into Saturday. That’s average for this time of year. The surf will be in the 2- to 4-foot range in many areas, and strong rip currents are possible. Snorkelers and divers should beware of surges in La Jolla Cove.
The National Hurricane Center says that a tropical storm named Douglas has developed below the tip of Baja California and is producing winds in the 35 mph to 40 mph range. It does not appear the system will become huge, but it might send some surf to San Diego County late in the week.
The county of San Diego has closed beaches from the Silver Strand south to the U.S.-Mexico border, mainly due to sewage run-off. Authorities also have issued health advisories for portions of six beaches from La Jolla Shores to Mission Bay, based on water quality testing. Updates are available at sdbeachinfo.com.
