Several inmates had alerted deputies on March 15 around 4:20 a.m. that Drahkee House fainted and needed medical assistance. Officials said he was taken to the facility’s medical clinic before he was transported to a nearby hospital.
He went into medical distress while en route, and paramedics performed life-saving measures, but House died at the hospital an hour later, sheriff’s officials said.
The Medical Examiner’s Office determined House died from an unprovoked pulmonary thromboembolism — when a blood clot blocks an artery in the lungs. They also identified morbid obesity as a factor. The manner of death was classified as natural, officials said.

House had been in sheriff’s custody since April 22, 2024, following his arrest by the California Highway Patrol on an illegal weapon charge. The next day, CHP filed murder charges in an unrelated case. San Diego police also added charges of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
He was found guilty of murder, attempted murder and robbery and scheduled to be sentenced in May.
The sheriff’s homicide unit is conducting an investigation, per protocol for in-custody deaths.
