The body of a 53-year-old swimmer who had gone missing and prompted a multi-agency search Saturday was found washed ashore on a Carlsbad beach Sunday, authorities said.

The man had last been seen around 7 p.m. Saturday, swimming about 50 yards offshore near lifeguard tower 26 at South Carlsbad State Beach, officials said. He was reportedly wearing a red shirt, black swim cap and gray shorts, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
State lifeguards, California State Parks, a county sheriff’s helicopter and Carlsbad police drones all helped in a water search on Saturday, the Coast Guard said. Encinitas and Oceanside also lent support, according to State Parks.

The Coast Guard Cutter Haddock continued searching Sunday morning, along with a helicopter and a small boat.
Just after noon on Sunday, state lifeguards found the man’s body washed ashore near lifeguard tower 28 at Ponto Beach, the Coast Guard said. The name of the man was not immediately released.
