Equipment failure leaves more than 3,000 customers without power

More than 3,000 customers in several San Diego neighborhoods were left without electricity Sunday afternoon after an equipment failure, a utility spokesperson said.

The outage began around 12:45 p.m. and affected the communities of Grantville, Allied Gardens, Del Cerro, Lake Murray, Mission Gorge and Sycamore Canyon, San Diego Gas & Electric said on its online outage map.

“Our equipment has been damaged and our crews need to make repairs,” the utility said.

As of 7:30 p.m., around 280 customers were still without power. SDG&E estimated service would be restored to those customers by 8 p.m.
