A married couple and their teen daughter were found dead inside a Lake Murray home early Wednesday after a neighbor went to investigate after hearing “loud bangs” the previous night, San Diego police said.

Police were called to the home on Boulder Lake Avenue shortly before 8:20 a.m. after getting a 911 call from a concerned neighbor who had gone into the home with a key she had. The neighbor found the two adults unresponsive and not breathing and was “concerned about the whereabouts” of the couple’s daughter, police said in a news release.

Officers arrived within minutes and determined that the two adults, a 56-year-old man and 54-year-old woman, were both dead. The couple’s teenage daughter was also found deceased in the home.

When the neighbor called police, she told them she had “heard loud bangs the night before” and went to check on her friend early Wednesday, police Officer Sarah Foster said.

Preliminary evidence indicated all three had died from gunshot wounds. A weapon was recovered from the house, said acting homicide Lt. Christopher Leahy.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will perform autopsies to determine the cause and manner of death for the trio. The victims’ names have not been released pending notification of family, officials said.

Pershing Middle School Principal Kristy Aragon sent an email to families on Wednesday informing them of the incident. The teenage victim was an eighth-grader at the nearby school, she said.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the unexpected passing of one of our eighth grade students due to an event in their home,” the principal wrote. “We are deeply saddened by this loss, and our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with those closest to the student and family.”

Aragon said counselors will be on campus this week to provide support to students and staff.

Police cars and crime scene tape blocked intersections near the tidy single-story home at Boulder Lake and Renkrib avenues Wednesday as neighbors gathered nearby. An American flag hung from a stand near the roofline with several smaller flags in front of the home next to cacti.

A couple of residents gathered near the police tape said they had interacted with the family, but didn’t know them well.

Leahy told reporters that there was “no known danger” to the community and that investigators were not looking for “any particular person or persons at this time.”
