Alvarado officially began her role July 1, succeeding Lucy Eagleson, who left the organization in February to join Price Philanthropies.

Founded in 2001, ARTS provides free creative programs and mentorship opportunities helping young people build confidence and life skills through the arts.

A Chula Vista resident, Alvarado most recently served as chief program officer at the Monarch School Project, the nonprofit supporting San Diego’s Monarch School, a K-12 public school serving students experiencing homelessness. In that role, she oversaw programs focused on youth development and family advocacy. She also partnered with ARTS when the organization provided arts programming for Monarch School students.

“I have been a fan of ARTS since 2007 when the ARTS team offered programming to Monarch School students at their site in Liberty Station,” Alvarado said in an emailed statement.

As it marks 25 years of working with local youth, the organization has launched a campaign to raise $150,000 by the end of the year. The effort will support ARTS’ nearly $2 million annual operating budget as Alvarado leads the organization into its next chapter of growth and expanded programming.
