Escondido police are looking for the driver of a light-colored sport utility vehicle that struck a bicyclist Saturday night, causing life-threatening injuries.

According to the Escondido Police Department, the collision occurred at Washington Avenue and Ash Street about 9:20 p.m. Police said the SUV, possibly a Ford Expedition or Explorer with front-end damage, ran a red light while turning right onto Ash from westbound Washington.

Emergency personnel took the cyclist, a 27-year-old man, to a hospital.
