With San Diego Comic-Con International 2026 now happening at the Convention Center, From the Archives goes back to Aug. 1, 1974, for this photo of a guy who called himself “Captain Sticky,” at the Comics Convention at the El Cortez Convention Center. Through the years the event eventually grew into the extravaganza we know today. Captain Sticky told the U-T photographer that he advocated for pro-consumer rights.
