Investigators believe Jayden Joe Lang, whose job title was described as a “performance expert,” was involved in a relationship with a student in March and April, El Cajon police said in a statement.

A performance expert is an hourly position that provides coaching and instructional support to improve student musical performance, district officials said.

The police department and district were notified by staff at the school, and Lang was immediately fired, police said.

In a statement sent to parents on Tuesday, Principal Doug Martin said the district had quickly issued a “stay away” directive to Lang, which prohibited him from coming onto campuses while the matter was being investigated.

“To be clear, this individual is no longer an employee of the Grossmont Union High School District and has not been permitted on our campuses since April 2026,” Martin said. “I wanted to make sure our families were aware of this development and knew how the District responded when first made aware of the complaint.”

Following their investigation, police obtained a warrant, and Lang was arrested on 12 felony charges, including statutory rape.

“There are no other known incidents involving this suspect,” police said in a statement. “The El Cajon Police Department and the Grossmont Union High School District are committed to the safety of students and to thorough investigations to ensure justice for victims and accountability for offenders.”
