A 19-year-old man was arrested in Northern California this week in connection with a June shooting in San Diego that left another 19-year-old man dead, police said.

Nasir Hampton was arrested in the Bay Area city of Hayward on Monday, San Diego police homicide Lt. Chris Leahy said in a news release. Online jail records indicate he was booked into an Alameda County jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
Just after 10:20 a.m. June 12, someone called 911 to report a shooting outside the Union Grantville apartment complex near the Grantville trolley station. Police arrived and found undisclosed evidence of a shooting, but no victim.

Around that same time, Leahy said, a separate 911 call came in reporting a solo car crash a few miles away on Mission Gorge Road near Old Cliffs Road. Police found 19-year-old San Diego resident Deandre Towers in the backseat, suffering from a gunshot wound. The driver told police he’d driven the injured man from outside the Union Grantville apartments and was trying to get him to a hospital.
Paramedics took Towers to a hospital, where he later died.
Court records indicate a warrant was issued last month for Hampton’s arrest.
On Monday, members of the U.S. Marshal’s Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Hampton. Leahy said extradition proceedings have been initiated to bring him to San Diego.
