A stranger in a ski mask sexually assaulted a woman as she was walking to her car in Vista on Wednesday night, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.

The assailant ran up from behind the 29-year-old woman and assaulted her about 9:40 p.m. on East Vista Way near Warmlands Avenue, Lt. Aloha Peters said in a news release.
The woman fought back and eventually escaped, Peters said.
The assailant was described as about 20 years old, about 5 feet, 2 inches tall, and weighing about 130 pounds, the lieutenant said. He wore all black clothing and a black ski mask.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the public to identify and locate the suspect. Anyone with information was asked to call the Sheriff’s Sexual Assault Unit at 858-285-6112 during the workday, or 858-868-3200 after hours.
