The Navy said that the 35-year-old boat held the event on Monday and its crew is now preparing to move Alexandria to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Washington, where it will be taken out of service.

“Through every chapter, Alexandria remained ready,” Rear Adm. Todd Weeks, one of the submarine’s former commanders, said during the ceremony. “Ready in distance seas. Ready in times of crisis. Ready whenever the nation called.”

Alexandria is a 360-foot long Los Angeles class boat that was commissioned in 1991, during the waning days of the Cold War. These vessels are considered among the best subs the Navy has ever built. But they are being phased out because of their age.

During its long service life, Alexandria completed 14 major overseas deployments, usually to the Indo-Pacific and Middle East. The boat’s final deployment ended in May 2025.
