Police received a report around 6:35 p.m. of a call from the infant’s father saying his daughter was unresponsive at their home on Hotel Circle North near Fashion Valley Road, police homicide acting Lt. Christopher Leahy said.
Paramedics arrived and performed life-saving measures on the infant until she could be transported to Rady Children’s Hospital, Leahy said. The girl died shortly after midnight.
Investigators said medical officials saw “significant trauma to the infant,” and detectives at the Police Department’s child abuse and homicide unit were notified.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the infant died at the hands of another person,” Leahy said in a news release.
The girl’s father, Rafael Santos, was arrested on suspicion of murder and child abuse causing death, Leahy said.
The county Medical Examiner’s Office will determine cause and manner of death, Leahy said.
