Book lovers of all ages are invited to join summer reading challenges happening all over San Diego County for the chance to win prizes.

There are dozens of library branches throughout the county that people can visit to register for the challenges and begin earning rewards. The San Diego County Library has 33 branches, including Alpine, El Cajon, Encinitas and Fallbrook. The San Diego Public Library has 37 branches, including Clairemont, Linda Vista and San Ysidro.
While the challenges have already started, participants are welcome to join any time as most continue through August. Some programs include book lists to choose from, but participants are welcome to read anything they’d like for credit.
Readers can also visit each branch’s online calendar for more events and activities included in the reading challenge. Here’s what to know for summer reading programs happening across San Diego County.
San Diego Public Library
Open through Aug. 15, this program is available to all ages who enjoy books and nature. This year’s theme is “Plant a Seed, Read,” which encourages participants to engage in multiple activities, including visiting a community garden, attending a farmers’ market and planting seeds.
Prizes include books, tickets to several Balboa Park museums and a chance to win tickets to a San Diego Padres game in September.

San Diego County Library
This program is open through Aug. 31. To earn prizes such as tote bags, books and museum tickets, participants can either read 10 books, log 10 hours of reading or complete 10 learning activities using Beanstack or a paper reading log available in or .

Carlsbad City Library
Through Aug. 1, readers of all ages can earn rewards by logging their hours of reading on Beanstack or a paper reading log, which can be picked up at any location.
Children in sixth grade can earn a free book by sharing their reads with a volunteer in the children’s area at any branch location.

Chula Vista Public Library
This year’s theme, “Rock N Read,” is a bingo-style challenge for all ages through July 18. To receive a prize, participants need to register in person at one of their library branches to complete a registration and bingo card.

Coronado Public Library
For kids, teenagers and adults, this program, themed “Bridging History with Books,” is through July 31.
Participants can log their hours online at coronado.beanstack.org, and kids can start earning prizes after 20 reads. Teenagers earn a grand prize raffle entry after two reads, and those in sixth through 12th grade are entered into the raffle after reporting up to eight reads. Adults can report up to 20 reads for entry.

Escondido Public Library
With the theme “Unearth a Story” through Aug. 16, readers grouped by babies, kids, tweens, teens and adults can earn prizes for the number of hours they read.
Teens and adults are eligible for weekly prize drawings. Using Beanstack, participants can earn tickets to be entered into prize drawings.

National City Public Library
This program offers opportunities for toddlers, kids and adults to win prizes. Through July 30 with the theme “Small Seeds Tall Tales,” parents can read to their children for a chance to win prizes.
For every five hours of reading, kids and teenagers qualify for a prize. For adults, raffle tickets to a grand prize drawing are given after six books are read.

Oceanside Public Library
All ages can join this challenge through Aug. 8 for the chance to win badges and prizes using Beanstack.
Kids up to 12 years old can win a prize bag for reading or being read to for 10 hours or 10 books. Teenagers 13 to 17 years old can earn a prize bag for reading five books. Adults can also earn prizes.
