Extreme heat watch issued for all areas of San Diego County

San Diego County will be under an extreme heat watch from Tuesday morning until Thursday due to humid air that will push temperatures into the low 80s at the coast, upper 90s in some inland valleys and foothills, and 113 to 114 in the desert, the National Weather Service says.

Much of the heat will arise from monsoonal moisture that will arrive on Monday, potentially generating thunderstorms, small hail and rain in East County. There’s a slight chance that lightning will briefly flicker near the coast.

Temperatures will become progressively higher through Wednesday, when they reach their peak. San Diego’s daytime high is forecast to be 77 on Monday, 78 on Tuesday and 81 on Wednesday. The seasonal average is 75. Sea-surface temperatures will range from 68 to 74, far warmer than in neighboring Orange County.
